We were honored to photograph a beautiful Friday wedding in Charlotte, NC at the Alexander Homestead wedding venue for Sarah and Kyle earlier this month. These two are both such sweet and loving souls, that are cared for deeply by all their friends and family. With all of that considered we just knew this day would be absolutely fabulous, and we weren’t wrong.
The day began with the girls getting ready at one of Sarah’s bridesmaid’s apartments in city and the guys were at another apartment down the road getting ready separately. When we arrived hair and makeup was done and the girls were all just relaxing and enjoying their time together which was such a nice way to start the day. We took a few photos in their matching pjs and then it was time to head to the venue to get Sarah in her gown.
Once we arrived to the venue, Sarah’s mom and two of her bridesmaids helped get her into her dress and shoes. When she was ready we had a reveal to the rest of her bridesmaids that was super sweet. As soon as Kyle and the guys arrived we did a first look with Sarah and her dad and brother, then a first look with her and Kyle. Some tears were shed and lots of hugs were exchanged before it was time for bridal party photos. Following the group pictures and a few more of the happy couple in the lush landscaped gardens, we retreated out of the Summer heat into the bridal suite for a few minutes of A/C before the ceremony.
As the storm around us crept closer and closer, they decided to go ahead and move forward with the ceremony, rain or shine because they were ready to get married – and I can’t blame them. Almost as soon as Sarah and her father got down the aisle, it started to rain. Luckily the guests had umbrellas and the whole bridal party was able to take cover under the ceremony gazebo. Sarah’s brother who officiated the ceremony, made things short and sweet, and everyone took cover from the storm in the reception space after the bride and groom shared a kiss.
We gave the rain a few minutes while we took family portraits indoors, and by the time we were ready for some newlywed portraits it had mostly stopped for the rest of the evening. So once the reception began they were able to open the barn doors for a more open air feel to their dinner and dancing. We were also able to sneak away for a few minutes once it got dark for some night time portraits under the bistro lights of the ceremony spot. A delicious dinner was accompanied by drinks, cake, and lots of dancing to make for the perfect celebration of Sarah and Kyle. They finished the evening off right with a bubble exit and lots of hugs goodbye.
Congrats again Sarah and Kyle! We loved being part of your wedding day!
