Blowing Rock, NC Proposal – Pierson & Holland

About two weeks ago Casey and I made the gorgeous drive up to one of our favorite little North Carolina mountain towns, Blowing Rock for a surprise proposal. We headed to Bass Lake Trail where we walked around the sparkling lake that was filled with lily pads and blooming waterlilies, to a spot that was previously decided on by Pierson as the perfect proposal place. We hid our camera bags behind the trees and sat down in the grass to enjoy the views and look as inconspicuous as possible.
Pierson had reached out to me months before with his tentative plan to see if we could capture his sweet soon-to-be-bride’s reaction and a few portraits following his proposal. As lovers of Blowing Rock and proposals, we of course jumped on the opportunity to photograph the precious beginning to their wedding story. Pierson had one of Holland’s close friends who lives in the Blowing Rock area go to the lake to help pick out the perfect spot and create a video to show us where we should be. This was SO helpful and Pierson even sent us exact GPS coordinates to be sure we were in the right spot – gotta love a super prepared guy!
All of his planning totally paid off in the end, and as the two rounded the edge of the lake, Pierson stopped to “take in the view” in the perfect, pre-planned spot, before he got down on one knee and totally surprised Holland with a stunning engagement ring and the promise of forever, which she excitedly said yes to.
Stunned would definitely be an understatement for how Holland was feeling. She was also probably a bit overwhelmed and confused as to why there were two creepers with big cameras sneaking through the trees like paparazzi. So once she looked back and spotted us, we came through the trees to introduce ourselves and give them a huge congratulations. Then we took a stroll to capture their happiness and surprise with some pretty portraits around the lake.
The two had a fun evening planned that involved a delicious dinner and a mountain cabin, which sounds like an awesome way to celebrate in my opinion!
