Pilot Mountain NC Elopement – Katrina & Josh

We woke up in the wee hours of the morning, threw on a few warm layers(that we actually didn’t even need), grabbed our camera bags and we hit the road towards Pilot Mountain State Park. It was a Monday morning in November, and Katrina and Josh said their vows in the most beautiful spot on top of Pilot Mountain. In the crisp morning air with sun coming up behind them, their officiant and his wife and Casey and I were their only witnesses and everything about their NC Mountain Elopement was absolute perfection.
This was our very first elopement, and now I am 110% hooked. Elopements are something I always thought we would love to capture, but this intimate ceremony really exceeded my expectations. There was no stressful timeline, no rushing, no crazy relatives who can’t be pleased, no extra fluff. Just two people, madly in love, who were committing to spending forever together. They did so in a gorgeous gown and the perfect suit and tie, with a bouquet and boutonnière made by the bride herself, and y’all it was so great.
We took a few portraits in the quiet of the morning, as the sun was coming up, and it really allowed the beauty of the day to sink in. Once their friend who was officiating the ceremony arrived, we walked down the rocky cliff and stood under the orange and yellow trees as they said their vows and shared a kiss. It was short and sweet and still super unique to them. Casey and I signed the marriage license since we were their only witnesses (such an honor!!), and then we had another two hours to take so many stunning portraits on the fairytale-esque rocks.
There was lots of time for Katrina and Josh to really focus on each other and the beautiful sunny day as they loved on each other in a breathtaking North Carolina setting. As we finished up, we even whipped out some hot cocoa to pour in their adorable newlywed mugs, and a cozy blanket for them to wrap up in while they took in the vast mountain views.
